Syllabus for Standardized Testing with Word

Description: 

Use Microsoft Word and other Office applications to create activities and practice tests. Activities and tests will be used to prepare your students for various standardized testing including Stanford 9 and AIMS. Instructor will provide some testing materials. May be taken for one, two or three credits. An additional project will be required to earn three credits.

 

Course Text/Materials: 

The instructor will provide some standardized testing materials.

Students will also need one 3-½ inch floppy disk.

Course Objective:

Upon completion of this course the student will have a collection of practice tests and materials to use with his/her class.

 

Course Methods and Procedures:

Students will be guided through a variety of hands-on activities that will give them the skills necessary to create variety of practice tests and worksheets.  Students will submit a project created outside of class.  The learner, with the approval of the instructor, will select the content of the project.  The project must include the features presented in class and will be evaluated with a rubric that will be provided to the students during class.

 

Course Outline:

  • Review of Word, Word Editing Basics
  • Analysis of Stanford 9 test scores
  • Review of areas covered on Stanford 9 and AIMS tests
  • Identification of target areas for Stanford 9 activities
  • Review of standardized test vocabulary and formatting

 

 

Evaluation/Outside Project:

Students will be evaluated on participation and completion of the in-class practice assignments.  Additionally all students must complete an outside project as described on page 7 of the Ottawa University catalog. The student with the approval of the Instructor will select the content of the project. It should include 12 hours of combined practice and project, and must be submitted by disk or e-mail within 2 weeks of completion of course. A rubric for evaluation of the project will be provided to the participants during class. *To earn 3 credit hours an additional outside project is required.
