Projects for Classroom Technology Integration

For one credit hour you must complete in class assignments. For two credit hours you must complete an additional 12 hours of outside practice. For three credit hours you must also complete an outside project.

The outside project consists of a series of 4 integrated projects each utilizing one of the following Microsoft Applications.

PowerPoint, Word, Internet Explorer and Excel.

Each lesson should include a brief description of the necessary instruction and teacher directions typed on a separate page and an A+ finished example of the product the student is to complete. The teacher directions should be written so that another teacher could use them in his or her classroom.

Ideas for Elementary Project Components

  1. Students will be instructed in the use of search engines to find specific information. They will then use Google, Yahooligans, Ask Jeeves, etc... to complete a Bird research form that will be handed out at the computer lab.

    •  Explain your instruction and create the worksheet. Example

    • Complete the blank worksheet to show students what thorough answers look like. Your example could be copied onto the back of the blank worksheet.

  2. Students will create a bird PowerPoint research report. Examples

    • Create a packet that has the same number of pages that the presentation will have slides. Write instructions on each page.

    • Create an A+ example of a PowerPoint bird report to share with students. Post it on the internet so students can refer to it.

  3. Students will observe birds in their neighborhood for a one week period and make an Excel graph with the data.

    • Create a form students can use to tally their observations.

    • Create a detailed list of instructions for gathering bird data.

    • Create a spreadsheet using simulated bird data.

    • Create an A+ chart using Excel that represents your bird data.

  4. Students will write bird poems and type them out in Word. Poems must include clipart and word art.

    • Model for students the use of Microsoft Word, specifically how to insert word art and clipart properly.

    • Read examples of bird poetry from books to give students ideas. Instruct them to refer to their bird research for ideas.

    • Create an A+ example of a bird poem project.

  5. A web page will be created using Microsoft Word that students will use to begin their investigation on birds. Example

    • This page should include a brief description and useful links to web sites that have checked in advance for utility.

Each project is worth 25% of your final grade.

Lesser quality projects will be graded using the following scale:

90%-100%    = A

80%-89%      = B

70%-79%      = C

60%-69%      = D

0%-59%        = F

You may submit your projects in one of the following ways.

  1. Turn in to the instructor on the last day of class.
  2. Mail a hard copy. (Please attach a description of your animations and other elements that cannot be printed.)
