Syllabus for Creating Web Pages II: Student Projects


Course Number: EDU 67115-AA (1) (2) (3) credits

Dates: August 5-6, 8:30am-5:30pm

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory at all class sessions.

Course Description:

Using your own web page, learn to create on-line student projects for your classroom. Help students get excited about school by making a fun, educational, interactive project for them to do on-line. Prerequisite: Creating Web Pages 1: Teaching with Interactive Web Pages. May be taken for one, two or three credits. An additional project will be required to earn three credits.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1.      Design and create multiple web pages that support his/her teaching responsibilities.

2.      Identify different tools used for the creation of interactive web based projects.

3.      Upload and update web pages to a web server.

 

Course Methods and Procedures:

Participants will be guided through a series of hands-on activities designed to improve their skills necessary to create web pages using Microsoft FrontPage.  Additionally students will receive basic instruction for trouble shooting the html code.

 

 Course Outline:

  1. Review Syllabus and Assignment
  2. Multimedia Projects
  3. Creating a Home Page to allow easy access to multimedia projects
  4. PowerPoint Basics
  5. FrontPage Review (for those who need it)
  1. Work on in-class assignment
  2.  Understanding the code
  3. Jazz it up with Java
  4. Uploading non FrontPage material
  5. Complete in-class assignment
  6. Share web site with class

Course Materials:

All necessary course material is posted online at: www.teacherz.net/ottawa

Students will also need one 3-½ inch floppy disk

 

Evaluation/Outside Project:

Students will be evaluated on participation and completion of the in-class practice assignments. Twelve hours of additional outside practice is required for two credits.  To earn three credits all students must complete an outside project. The student with the approval of the Instructor will select the content of the project. It should include 12 hours of combined practice and project, and must be submitted by disk or e-mail within 1 week of completion of course. A rubric for evaluation of the project will be provided to the participants during class.
