 Syllabus for Thematic Units with FrontPage

Course Number: EDU 67112-AA (1) (2) (3) CREDITS

Dates: June 23 and 24, 8:30am-5:30pm

Course Description:

Use Microsoft FrontPage and Word to create an enhanced online version of your yearlong thematic units, which students can use independently. Participants should bring written materials they presently use for thematic units. May be taken for one, two or three credits. An additional project will be required to earn three credits.

 

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

·        Design and create multiple web pages that support his/her yearlong theme.

·        Design web based activities to be used in his/her classroom or independently by pupils.

·        Upload and update web pages to a web server.

 

Course Methods and Procedures:

Direct instruction, examples, modeling, guided practice and independent practice will be used to reinforce skills presented.

 

Course Outline:

  • Review various models of thematic instruction
  • Review online resources
  • Basic skills for creating interactive web pages using FrontPage 2000

 
  • Create and link multiple web pages
  • Upload pages to a server
  • Add appropriate and supportive graphics

 

Course Materials:

All necessary course material is posted online at: www.teacherz.net/ottawa

Students will also need one 3-½ inch floppy disk

 

Evaluation/Outside Project:

Students will be evaluated on participation and completion of the in-class practice assignments.  Additionally all students must complete an outside project as described on page 7 of the Ottawa University catalog. The student with the approval of the Instructor will select the content of the project. It should include 12 hours of combined practice and project, and must be submitted by disk or e-mail within 2 weeks of completion of course. A rubric for evaluation of the project will be provided to the participants during class. *To earn 3 credit hours an additional outside project is required.
