Syllabus for Digital Technology for the Classroom

Course Description: 

Utilize current digital technology including digital cameras, digital imaging, and web-based resources in the creation of classroom presentations and as a basis for student projects. No Prerequisite. Classroom instruction earns one credit. Twelve hours of additional practice required for two credits. An additional outside project will be required to earn three credits.

 

Course Materials: 

All necessary course material is posted online at: www.teacherz.net/ottawa. Digital cameras are encouraged.

 

Course Objectives: 

Instruction and practice will focus on:

·        Editing digital photos

·        Using different file formats

·        Creating graphics using a variety of applications

·        Inserting graphics into documents and presentations

·        Using web-based resources

·        Sharing of ideas for student projects

 

Course Methods and Procedures: 

Students will be guided through a variety of hands-on activities that will give them the skills necessary to use a digital technology with a variety of Microsoft applications. 

 

Course Outline:

  • Download and save pictures from the internet
  • Define and work with .jpg and .gif and other file formats

·        Save photos for Internet and printing purposes

·        Create an animated gif to use on a web page or insert into a Word document

  • Create graphics using Microsoft Word
  • Create and modify WordArt
  • Insert graphics into various applications including FrontPage and PowerPoint
  • Share ideas for student projects
  • Edit and create digital photos and graphics using Adobe Photoshop Elements

 

Evaluation/Outside Project:

Students will be evaluated on participation and completion of the in-class practice assignments. Twelve hours of additional outside practice required for two credits.  To earn three credits all students must complete an outside project. The student with the approval of the Instructor will select the content of the project. It should include 12 hours of combined practice and project, and must be submitted by disk or e-mail within 1 week of completion of course. A rubric for evaluation of the project will be provided to the participants during class.
