Course Description:

Get ready to use the Internet and E-mail in your classroom and with your students! Learn to browse the Internet using an Internet Browser; explore search engine options for educational resources; learn how to keyword search; basic skills for sending/receiving e-mail; attach files to e-mail.

Class Objectives:

            Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

·               Browse the World Wide Web using Internet Explorer.

·               Send and receive email.

 

Course Methods and Procedures:

Participants will be guided through a series of hands-on activities designed to give them the skills necessary to browse the World Wide Web using Internet Explorer.  Participants will also learn the basic skills involved in sending and receiving email and creating a basic web page.

  • Surfing the Internet
  • Locating information on the Internet
  • Issues of security
  • Using Email
  • Subscribing to an email provider
  • Sending a message
  • Attaching a file to a message
  • Receiving a message
  • Opening an attachment
  • Adding addresses to an address book
  • Issues of email security
  • Making a simple web page

Evaluation/Outside Project:

Students will be graded on completion of all in-class practice activities and completion of 7 hours out of class practice activities. The outside project is a requirement described on page 7 of the Ottawa University catalog.
